ASSISTANT AUDITOR-GENERAL

Victorian Auditor-General’s Office
Victorian State Government
Melbourne, Australia
ASSISTANT AUDITOR-GENERAL x 3
  • Key leadership positions
  • People and change management focus
  • Strategic and innovative thinkers
The Victorian Auditor-General’s Office provides assurance to Parliament on the accountability and performance of the Victorian public sector. To achieve this, VAGO conducts over 550 financial audits and numerous performance audits across a diverse range of portfolios including infrastructure, health, education, water, local government, insurance, justice, treasury and superannuation.
VAGO is currently undergoing substantial change, driven by its recently appointed Auditor-General.  The purpose of the reform program is to significantly modernise VAGO’s modus operandi and basic operations, bring about greater interaction across its three functional areas, and create a dynamic environment offering greater scope for each individual’s career development.
As members of the Executive Leadership Team, you will play a key part in the transformation, focusing on leading your respective teams from a people and business perspective, rather than technical/auditing. You will enjoy significant autonomy, reporting to the Auditor-General on auditing issues and to the Deputy Auditor-General on business and operational matters.
To be a contender for one of these positions you will need to bring an understanding of auditing that enables you to function effectively in this environment. Proven leadership skills – ideally agile and transferable – and successful involvement in innovation and/or radical change are essential.  Previous experience in professional service firms, or appropriate senior public sector roles, would be highly regarded.  These are not traditional Assistant Auditor-General positions.
Candidates must also have the highest integrity and diplomacy combined with sound judgement to fulfil their obligations and responsibilities.
