Position Title: Justice and Home Affairs Policy Analyst

Salary scale: Monthly gross salary 2985,69 euro for 28 hours/week

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Counsellor for International Criminal Operations and of the Counsellor for Immigration, assists the Counsellors in analysing the European Union’s Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) policies by providing relevant EU documents background and perspectives; makes recommendations on policies and programs and proposes and organises events and programs to enhance JHA objectives; develops and maintains thorough knowledge of JHA policies and programs and their potential impact on Canada; and performs other duties.

ELIGIBILITY

This position is open to individuals who meet the essential requirements described in this notice and who are:

  • citizens of Belgium, or
  • residents possessing a valid working permit, or
  • dependants of Canadian employees of the Canadian government in Brussels.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Prior to appointment, the successful candidate must obtain an enhanced reliability clearance (ERC).

SCREENING REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from a government recognized college/university (political science, international relations, law or similar degree). Preference may be given to those with a law degree from a government recognized college/university.

Language: Fluency in written and spoken English and French is essential.

Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in a business environment or in an international or in a non profit organization.
Experience in windows and office suite such as excel, word, database.

RATED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of EU institutions, programs, policy making and legal processes in the field of Justice and Home Affairs and their potential impact on Canada;
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and practices;
  • Knowledge of software packages such as Windows and Office suite including word processing and database software.

Ability

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in French and English;
  • Ability to plan and organize workflow and to work independently;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Ability to conduct research, and to identify competencies within the EU and its institutions;
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate information quickly;
  • Ability to work well as a member of a team;
  • Ability to multitask and adjust to changing priorities.
