Communications and Media Executive

The World Water Council is an independent, international organisation that promotes sustainable water management throughout the world. It has more than 400 member organisations including governments, non-governmental organisations, businesses, professional networks and research institutions, based in over 50 countries. The World Water Council brings sound information and knowledge on water-related issues into the public domain to raise awareness and create political will to improve access to water and sanitation and manage water wisely. Every three years, the World Water Council organizes the World Water Forum with over 15,000 participants from around the world. Reporting to: President

Job description

Under the supervision of the President, the Communications and Media Executive develops i) communications strategy, ii) media strategy and networking; iii) public relations and iv) administration and management support in close working relationships with the World Water Council staff.

The Communications and Media Officer will carry out the following tasks, in close collaboration with the President, Bureau, Board and staff members:

1. Communications strategy and activities

· Draft the World Water Council communications strategy and workplan, which should remain flexible and adaptive;

· Co-ordinate the World Water Council’s presence (i.e. stand, logo use, identity) at the 6th World Water Forum;

· Develop the World Water Council communications tools, systems and products, including website(s), IT platforms, blogs, printed materials, video, photos etc. in liaison with the staff;

· Co-ordinate the production of brochures, hand-outs, promotional videos, photographs, films and multimedia material in liaison with the staff.

2. Media strategy and networking

· Develop and lead the implementation of a media strategy for the World Water Council, including the operations of the Water Media Centre;

· Coordinate all World Water Council media aspects of the 6th World Water Forum;

· Compile an address book and maintain press relations for the development of an extensive and effective network of media contacts;

· Oversee the production of press briefs, press releases, OPEDs, articles, background briefs for the preparation of press conferences, press events and briefings, interviews, etc., in close liaison with the staff;

· Monitor the WWC’s image in the media and provide monthly reports;

· Analyze, evaluate and modify the organization or campaign strategies accordingly;

· Mobilize resources to support campaigns and media work.

3. Public Relations

· Support the image of the World Water Council through Public Relations efforts and campaigns;

· Co-ordinate the World Water Council’s engagement with and presence at major relevant (international) events.

4. Administration and Management Support

· Carry out administrative duties required to function within the World Water Council Secretariat;

· Develop and use annual and quarterly work plans to guide work and deliver results;

· Ensure translations of World Water Council documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Relevant Masters degree or higher qualification (in communication, social or political sciences or humanities);

· At least 7 years experience and strong understanding of media at all levels;

· Experience in developing synthetic background papers in a short period of time;

· Excellent presentation and communications skills and the ability to write clear and concise issue briefs and reports in English;

· Experience in working as part of a team to deliver key outputs on time and within budget.

· Besides fluency in English, knowledge of French and other languages;

· Demonstrated understanding of major policy issues surrounding water management and development;
