Plant Pathologist/Crop Health Management Specialist (Scientist/Senior Scientist)

Plant pathologist for host plant resistance who will conduct research on host plant resistance to emerging diseases under changing rice production scenarios and who will lead in efforts to develop improved germplasm tolerant of biotic stresses.

Major Accountabilities / Responsibilities
• Conduct disease/pest surveillance in a practical context, monitoring emerging disease problems, leading to practical management recommendations
• Integrate crop health management approaches (including host plant resistance and crop management) to derive practical recommendations for disease/pest management by farmers
• Develop crop health/disease management decision tools for extension
• Develop strategies to mitigate effects of climate change on rice crop health

Qualification requirements
• PhD in plant pathology/pests/diseases or a related discipline
• At least 8 years of post-PhD research experience
• Strong background in crop health/plant pathology research-for-development and extension
• Experience in leading complex projects
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
