Senior Associate – Health Management Systems International, Washington, D.C.

Position Summary: The Senior Associate will serve as a resident technical expert in global health, and maintain primary responsibility for expanding MSI’s global health portfolio. S/he will work closely with senior staff to integrate health into other development assistance efforts, as well as pursue new health sector projects. The Senior Associate will capitalize on MSI’s long history of international development programming and significant experience in the health sector, provide technical assistance to a range of existing programs and work closely with colleagues throughout the Human Development Practice Area.
Responsibilities:

• Identify and pursue global health projects in nutrition and food security, maternal and child health, malaria, water and sanitation, HIV/AIDS, health system strengthening, and other relevant areas, funded by USAID, PEPFAR and other global health donors;

• Work closely with senior staff to develop MSI’s health sector strategy, and to articulate how MSI’s expertise in improving social determinants of health should and can be integrated into global health programming that strengthens health service delivery systems;

• Actively seek out and maintain partnerships with international health organizations; build and maintain strong relationships with donors and potential clients;

• Serve as a resident technical expert in health, oversee long-term field projects, travel to the field for short-term technical assistance trips, and select and manage consultants for health-related assignments;

• Leverage health sector activities embedded in MSI’s existing projects, and contribute to other projects via assessments, evaluations, training and facilitation as needed;

• Develop, strengthen, and update MSI’s health-related marketing materials for a variety of audiences;

• Contribute to knowledge management efforts internal to MSI and MSI’s parent company, Coffey International Ltd.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated technical expertise and significant, senior-level experience with global health and development;

• Prior field-based experience on USAID, PEPFAR, Gates or other international donor funded health projects, as well as US-based business development and project management experience;

• Well-established professional relationships with implementing partners in the health sector and substantial experience with and/or within USAID;

• Successful proposal writing and business development experience, as well as demonstrated skills in concept and strategy development, relationship building, and marketing. Applicants should provide details about these successes in their application;

• Technical background in organizational development and change, good governance, and/or monitoring and evaluation—including a solid, practical understanding of the linkages between governance and health – desired;

• Advanced degree in Public Health or a related field strongly preferred;

• Extensive experience with training design, delivery, and facilitation;

• Excellent verbal and written skills, as well as the ability to work well in team situations;

• Fluency in a second language (Spanish, French, Arabic) preferred;

• Must be willing and able to travel on short-term technical assistance trips throughout the developing world.
