Business Development Officer - Senegal

SUMMARY

Supports proposal development and grants acquisition strategy by building profile, positioning focus National Offices and strengthening proposal development and grants acquisition capacity in assigned country offices, focusing on acquisition of high value grants.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete and regularly update an institutional scan on institutional donor priorities, allocations or commitments from the USG to major initiatives or sectors or geographic areas or specific populations in assigned country as well as a scan of current USG funded programs, funding instruments, consortiums, and major implementers of USG funded grants and cooperative agreements.
  • Review and complete the program Pipeline of assigned National Offices to ensure healthy portfolio planning
  • Coordinate with assigned National Office Team to increase the competitive readiness of the National Office and meeting the pre-solicitation requirements set by the Global Grants Team
  • Cultivate strong connections between national offices, USAID and other US government agencies and keep organization appraised of new funding opportunities, formation of consortiums, and the Strategic Objectives of the local USAID mission in country and ensure alignment of the Program Pipeline and readiness activities with them.
  • Review assigned Country Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers, government priorities especially those related to children and youth, and the conclusion of major evaluations of USG funded programs in country
  • Provide leadership and support to build grant development capacity within ChildFund
  • Designs, develops, and implements an effective mechanism and effort for partnership building with implementing partners, local and international networking
  • Coordinates and writes concept papers and proposals to respond to specific solicited and unsolicited funding opportunities of high value grants
  • Follow up submissions of proposals with effective liaison with donors, as permitted, and ensure that donor questions and concerns are fully addressed on time.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • 5-7 years experience writing grant proposals;
  • Thorough understanding and proven track record of obtaining large USAID and other major donor awards
  • Prior experience working in the development sector
  • Strong analytical and forecasting skills
  • Strong oral, written communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience in training, coaching and/or mentoring project staff in the basics of proposal development
  • Demonstrated diplomacy in building relationships, working collaboratively within a growing organization, and within broader external coalitions
  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications (spreadsheet, database, accounting operations software, project management software, presentation software)
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and work autonomously under pressure of deadline required.
  • Fluency in English and some level of French profeciency required.
  • Required travel of 30 – 40% in developing nations and outside assigned region; often on short notice

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Development or a field related to the organization’s core program, or equivalent relevant work experience.
