Communicable Disease Control Nurse

Established in 1998, The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) is a dynamic and ever-evolving First Nations’ health care partnership consisting of four health organizations providing health services responsive to the needs of the northern communities.
Collectively, the four organizations (Meadow Lake Tribal Council, Lac La Ronge Indian Band, Prince Albert Grand Council and Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation) have gained over 20 years of expertise delivering nursing, public health, and primary care treatment services to 33 First Nation communities across northern Saskatchewan.

About the Opportunity

As a growing health authority, NITHA has an opening for a diligentCommunicable Disease Control Nurse to join its team in Prince Albert, SK.

As the Communicable Disease Control (CDC) Nurse, and reporting to the Medical Health Officer, your main duties will be centered on population and public health nursing services as they relate to the prevention, control and follow up of communicable diseases.
NITHA is on the lookout for a skilled nursing professional, knowledgeable in communicable disease control services and programs, who is eager to take on the following responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and insure the investigation and timely report of communicable diseases by exercising a knowledge of CDC;
  • Receive notification of cases and lists of contacts of communicable diseases from a variety of health care professionals such as community nurses, Environmental Health Officers and Communicable Disease Nurses of Regional Health Authorities; and
  • Oversee that effective communication on CDC targets the correct groups by initiating public education activities and rolling out initiates to control the spread of infectious diseases and the management of outbreaks.
Successful applicants will have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience in Public Health/Infectious disease, community or population health experience with a focus on communicable disease. You have experience working with computer applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, and other database systems, and it will be considered a definite asset if you’ve previously used iPHIS.
You are a seasoned professional when it comes to communicating with others as you have excellent written and verbal skills. You use these skills to direct and influence others and you are equipped with a highly organized, structured management style. If you are able to manage multiple projects at once while keeping a keen eye for detail, you will excel in this role. An ability to work independently, as well as in a team in essential to this position and you’re experienced in analyzing data to solve problems.
