INTERPOL is the world’s largest international police organization, with 188 Member Countries. Created in 1923, it facilitates cross-border police co-operation, and supports and assists all organizations, authorities, and services whose mission is to prevent or combat international crime. INTERPOL is now looking for one qualified candidate as Specialized Officer within the IRT/IMEST Unit in the Coordinator Command and Co-ordination Centre (CCC).

In order to ensure that they take place in a safe and secure manner, the IRT/IMEST Unit of the CCC provides support to member countries that are hosting multi-national sporting, cultural or high profile economic/political events. Support is provided prior to it by sharing best practices and lessons learned from previous events. Often a field assessment team is deployed to determine the specific needs of the country and identify the best support which can be provided by INTERPOL. If requested by the host country, an Interpol Major Events Support Team (IMEST) will be deployed to provide on-site support during the event and serve as a contact point with the INTERPOL General Secretariat and member countries. The IRT/IMEST Unit is responsible for the planning and preparation necessary for this type of support.

The Unit also coordinates the deployment of INTERPOL Response Teams (IRTs) to provide on-site support and serve as a contact point with the INTERPOL General Secretariat during or after a disaster or serious incident. This is done at the request of the concerned Member Country. The IRT/IMEST Unit, in conjunction with the Operations Room, is responsible for all arrangements and preparation for the safe and timely deployment of an IRT.

The CCC Specialized officer will, under the guidance and supervision of CCC managers, take an active role in all daily activities of the CCC including, but not limited to, NCB message risk assessments and responses, monitoring for international incidents, providing international advice and guidance to NCBs and police in the field, supporting IRT deployments, advising on the use of INTERPOL tools, including Notices and support to INTERPOL crime projects. The CCC Specialized Officer may also be called upon to provide support related to unanticipated, spontaneous and internationally relevant crime incidents requiring police experience, flexibility and decision-making and intuitive ability.

Primary Duties

Under the supervision of the Coordinator Crimes against Children, the incumbent performs the following duties:

  1. Contribute to ensure that the daily duties of the CCC are accomplished efficiently and effectively;
  2. Under the guidance and instruction of CCC managers, review and recommend new procedures or modifications to current procedures in the CCC;
  3. Under the guidance and supervision of CCC managers, liaise with other OS personnel to ensure integrated and collective procedures and outcomes;
  4. Work with the CCC and Team Leaders on distribution and training of CCC procedures;
  5. Be accountable under the supervision of CCC managers for the maintenance, issuance, correct use and availability of equipment to be used for IRTs and IMESTs;
  6. Deploy as a member of IRTs when necessary and requested to do so. Make recommendations regarding IRT procedures especially safety, reporting and equipment use/needs;
  7. Represent and promote the work of the CCC when appropriate and requested to do so, notably at conferences and exercises by providing presentations and developing networking as regular activity;
  8. Be familiar with all duties and components of the CCC and be able to assist in any capacity during urgent international law enforcement situations requiring an immediate response;
  9. Performs other related duties as required by the supervisor.

Requirements

All candidates will be assessed on the under mentioned requirements.

Experience

  • Police experience in operational services and in an international environment

Education

  • University Degree or equivalent professional experience

Languages

  • Professional fluency in English (written and oral)
  • Working knowledge of at least one additional official language (French, Spanish, or Arabic) is required

    Computer knowledge

    • Advanced level in the use of Microsoft Office suite

    Management

    • Management experience within a police environment is essential

    Job Specificities

    • Must be able to work flexible hours and shifts (including nights, weekends, public holidays)
    • Must be able to travel at short notice locally and internationally

    In addition to the requirements, the following Assets and Special Aptitudes would be beneficial.

    Asset

    • International deployment experience
    • Other computer skills would be a plus
    • Knowledge of and experience with all emergency services and investigative tools


    Working Conditions

    • Remuneration: INTERPOL does not pay salary to seconded officials. Depending on the nationality of official, an expatriation allowance may be paid for a maximum period of six years.     • The incumbent will be occasionally required to work irregular hours or overtime based upon workload;
    • This post requires occasional travel on missions, sometimes of a long duration and at a short notice.


    * The Organization plans to establish a Global Complex in Singapore at the end of 2013. Although no decisions have been made at this time as to which posts will be transferred to Singapore, acceptance of the post implies acceptance of a transfer to Singapore.
