Food Security Advisor

Salary: £33,102 per annum Ref: C470 Based: London, with international travel

CARE International UK (CIUK) is currently recruiting a Food Security Advisor to join it’s Emergencies & Humanitarian team. The post-holder will be responsible for leading CIUK’s work on food security, focusing specifically on progammes that build resilience to prevent food crises (including the use of social protection mechanisms) and early response to prevent loss of livelihood assets. S/he will work with country offices to effectively manage and provide technical support to food insecure contexts. The post holder will be required to explore new funding opportunities and develop new programmes with country and regional offices and in collaboration with colleagues. S/he will ensure that programme learning and evidence is adequately captured and disseminated to interested internal and external parties. S/he will lead analysis work on current and chronic food crises and contribute to policy influencing on food security issues. The post will address multiple aspects of food insecurity but the post holder will have responsibility for building CARE’s portfolio of work around climate change-induced food and livelihood insecurity and will be expected to link with several key internal and external networks associated with risk reduction and resilience building.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in food security programmes with a good understanding of key issues around vulnerability and risk reduction and climate change adaptation. The candidate will hold a degree in a relevant subject preferably postgraduate studies or relevant field experience. The post-holder will have strong project and budget management skills (including M&E) and will have liaised with donors on food security grants. Proven team working and financial literacy skills are important. Relevant language skills are desirable and proven high quality writing and communication skills are essential.
