Global Safeguarding Coordinator (Oxfam GB)

Global Safeguarding Coordinator
c. £35,400 pro rata | Part-time (18 hours pw)
Oxford

At Oxfam we feel strongly about protecting those who have been or are at risk of being sexually exploited or abused. In the past we’ve played a supporting role. But now it’s time for us to take more action in safeguarding the most vulnerable people we work with. And you’ll lead the way.

The role
Working across all Oxfam’s divisions, you’ll provide expert advice and training on the issues surrounding Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA). But you won’t just promote best practice and raise SEA awareness, you’ll support senior in-country staff to make sure allegations of exploitation or abuse are reported and investigated appropriately. The role will involve some international travel although direction will predominantly be given from the UK. You’ll also keep an eye on overall numbers and trends, reviewing our effectiveness and reporting your findings to the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) Steering Group. This feedback is key to influencing Oxfam policy and keeping vulnerable people safe all over the world. As the only experienced member of staff in this area, you’ll have a lot of responsibility. But you’ll also have an unprecedented chance to develop yourself.

What we’re looking for
With your history of implementing PSEA and/or child protection activities, we’ll expect you to hit the ground running. And while you could come from a variety of backgrounds, including social work, the police, the Crown Prosecution Service or another NGO, you’ll have experience of safeguarding vulnerable people and preferably professional qualifications to back it up. Results-driven and passionate about safeguarding the most vulnerable members of society, you’ll have experience of risk management. More than that, you’ll need strong communication and networking skills on top of being able to deliver safeguarding training to a wide audience. In short, you’ll be a strong influencer and know how to inspire busy people to act.

About Oxfam
A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. It’s not just their problem. It’s ours too. And with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. Thousands of people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
