Health Systems/Public Health Researcher or Epidemiologist Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)

Responsibilities
Develop, set up and coordinate the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) project component
Manage, supervise, train and coach the M&E team
Set up and manage the database that will serve M&E and Operational Research (OR) objectives
Develop and implement the OR agenda for the project
Develop study protocols
Apply for ethical review board and follow-up the process
Produce regular progress reports on M&E and OR
Liaise with external partners to implement the HIV incidence surveys
Communication with other components of the programme and relevant partners (academic and implementation)
Requirements
University degree in Health Systems Research, Public Health, Epidemiology or related health research degree
Proven work experience in the field of HIV/AIDS, including demonstrated experience in designing and analysing TB/HIV operational research in resources limited setting
Proficiency in medical statistical techniques (analysis of cohort studies and complex survey data)
Good knowledge of common office software (Microsoft Office) and statistical software (STATA, SPSS or equivalent)
Ability in technical writing (reports or peer-reviewed publications – published is an added advantage)
Experience in a multi-disciplinary international team
Ability to work independently
Fluent written and spoken English
Good diplomacy and communication skills
Commitment to the humanitarian principles of Médecins Sans Frontières
Initial medical or para-medical degree is an added advantage
Experience working in public health sector in South Africa is an added advantage
Médecins Sans Frontières is known for its humanitarian medical work, but has also produced important research based on its field experience. MSF has published articles in over 100 peer-reviewed journals and these have often changed clinical practice and have been used for humanitarian advocacy.
