COE Compensation Consultant – Japan & South Pacific

Consulted as part of the Global Compensation, Benefits, and Mobility COE (Center of Expertise) team in the development and implementation of global strategies for compensation. Accountable for soliciting input from the business units (management and HR), understanding local business needs and understanding the local market environments to ensure the global compensation strategy is adapted to the needs of the business.

Responsible for the execution of the global compensation strategy in this geography by designing regional/local solutions adapted to the business needs and local legal/statutory requirements, and consistent with our strategy.

Responsible for the detailed design of local compensation and benefits plans, programs and projects as assigned as part of annual business planning process. As part of the Global Compensation team this may involve in participation in projects outside of this geography.

Consulted in the creation of global compensation and benefits policies. Responsible for developing local compensation and benefits policies.

Consulted in the creation of the global governance model for compensation and benefits. Responsible for governance of local compensation plans for this geography, in partnership with Global Benefits team and GBS (Global Business Services) HR Operations.

Responsible for partnering with GBS HR Operations to ensure the end-to-end execution and delivery of compensation processes in this geography, in line with Operating Level Agreements.

Consults on the development and implementation of global and local compensation processes.

Actively participates in the Pacific Compensation, Benefits and Mobility COE team in this geography, and the Global Compensation team.

Responsible for working with leaders of specialist areas (e.g. Compensation, Benefits, Mobility, etc) for personal career development.

As a Center of Expertise, provide training & education to other HR members, managers & associates in the Compensation and Benefits area.

Function Specific Activities:

Partner with GBS HR Operations to execute newly designed, global processes for compensation to transition to the transformed compensation organization and to enable the HR service delivery model.

Work with the Center GBS on the annual external benchmarking exercise and review the internal salary structure, merit budget and merit guidelines. Partner with GBS HR Operations to manage and execute the annual rewards management cycle.

Ensure on an on-going basis that compensation and benefits solutions are implemented and executed in a manner that sustains the HR service delivery model.

Work with Global Compensation Director to understand the global compensation processes, also work with the SBPs to ensure that legal and statutory issues are addressed through the process design and governance, support management on global processes, and support – where appropriate – GBS HR Operations in the day-to-day delivery and executive of compensation processes in line with Operating Level Agreements.

Work with Pacific Compensation, Benefits and Mobility COE Lead and SBP to execute strategy and implement compensation designs in order to meet the business needs.

Consult with leaders (HR SBP and management) to understand root cause of business issues, identify where C&B could play a role in providing solutions, use these insights as input to the creation and development of global compensation strategy and implement the global strategy locally in a manner that is relevant and adapted to the local market.

Evaluate the effectiveness of local and regional compensation and benefits programs to ensure they are relevant. Design and implement necessary changes or improvements.

Actively participate in the Pacific Compensation, Benefits and Mobility COE team in this geography and the Global Compensation Team.


Minimum Required Education:

University degree –at least 4 year university degree. Master, MBA desirable.


Related Work Experience:

At least 5 years of experience in compensation & benefits. Experience in consultancy field would be preferred.


Language Requirements:

Written and spoken Japanese required. Fluent and written English up to a business standard level also required.
