DEPUTY CHIEF EDUCATION SPECIALIST (LEVEL 3)
Component: Academic Affairs: Central Office
Salary scale: R243 021 per annum (Ref. TNC/CO/12-01/03)
Requirements: • Recognised 3-year post-Matric educational qualification (REQV 13) in an appropriate field • 5 years’ appropriate experience • Extensive knowledge of academic assessment and moderation procedures • Knowledge of NC (V), learnerships and skill programme protocols and procedures (UMALUSI, ETQA and SETA related) • Ability to handle quantitative and qualitative information, analyse it and present it cogently and effectively as a basis for decision making • Record of successfully managing and coordinating the implementation of planned goals and working with a range of professional colleagues • Sound knowledge of the Further Education and Training Colleges, the General Further Education and Training Quality Assurance Act (No 58 of 2001) AND the Sector Regulatory and Legislative Framework.
Duties: • Supervise the performance and development of academic staff on the campus • Coordinate the campus timetable • Oversee the implementation of best practice teaching practices (eg lesson plan, etc) • Monitor programme delivery including lesson preparation, assessments, moderation, POE development and administration and student performance • Quality assure the annual development plans compiled and submitted to the campus academic staff • Assess the professional development
undertaken by campus academic staff • Coordinate assessments, examinations and assessment results • Build a Successful Team: Use appropriate methods and a flexible interpersonal style to help build a cohesive team, facilitating the completion of team goals • Drive for Results: * Set high goals for personal and group accomplishment * Use measurement methods to monitor progress toward goal attainment * Tenaciously work to meet or exceed those goals while deriving satisfaction from the process of goal achievement and continuous improvement • Innovation: * Generate innovative solutions in work
situations * Try different and novel ways to deal with work problems and opportunities • Building Partnerships: Identify opportunities and take action to build strategic relationship between one’s area and other areas, units, or industries to help achieve College goals • Operational Decision Making: * Relate and compare data on the operational (ie day-to-day) effectiveness from different sources * Establish goals and requirements that reflect College objectives and values, including the importance of continuous improvement * Secure relevant information and identify key issues, relationships, and cause/effect from a base of information * Commit to an action after developing alternative courses of action that are based on logical assumptions and factual information and that take into consideration resources and constraints.
