ORASECOM River Learning Box Project


PROJECT MANAGER

Contract position based in Howick, KZN


Background:
The Orange-Senqu River Commission (ORASECOM) have initiated the “Orange-Senqu: River Learning Box, Action Learning for a Living River” project. This project will focus on the development and piloting of learning support materials for sustainable water resources management in 10-12 year old school children living in the Orange-Senqu river basin.


The project will be implemented by WESSA (the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa) in association with partners in the other three riparian states of the Orange-Senqu River Basin. Applications should ideally come from one of the riparian states, namely Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and South Africa.


Essential Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
The successful candidate should as a minimum have the following qualifications: • A post graduate degree in environmental education or a related field • At least seven years of professional experience preferably as a project manager of environmental education or sustainable water resources management project(s) • Strong facilitation skills and a proven track-record in stakeholder coordination • Effective communication and networking abilities • Experience in teaching and teacher-training as well as educational materials development would be an advantage.


Duty Station: The position is based at WESSA in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Some travel will be expected in the four riparian states.


Duration:
February/March 2012 to December 2013
