IS Support Desktop Analyst Cardno

Organisational Environment
Cardno’s organizational and IT environment is geographically dispersed over approx 40 branch offices within Australia, New Zealand, PNG and UAE, together with other business units in the USA and UK.
Cardno IS is structured with a central infrastructure and applications team who are responsible for corporate-wide IT services, divisionally based IS teams and local staff in many branch offices. Cardno’s head office is based in Brisbane, QLD.
Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to work within the NSW/ACT Division IT Team to maintain, administer and support Microsoft Windows Servers, and Desktops used by Cardno in the operation of the business. This role is to report directly to Division IT Manager NSW/ACT.
This role is a member of a 3 person team within the larger Cardno Group IT.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The IS Support NSW/ACT position has a number of shared responsibilities around the smooth operations of the NSW/ACT site servers, desktops and printers.
Core shared responsibilities:
  • Participate or lead any moves, adds or changes to the Microsoft Windows desktop systems, as required.
  • Troubleshooting and problem resolution on Microsoft Windows hardware, OS and Applications.
  • Provide support and problem resolution for printers and multi-function devices.
  • Assist in maintaining and administering the NSW/ACT Active Directory, including computers, users and system accounts.
  • Administer and maintain Microsoft Windows Domain support services such as DFS, Backups, Login scripts, Security Groups assignment.
  • Assist in maintaining and administering the NSW/ACT Exchange mailboxes, distribution lists, and contacts.
  • Install, configure and maintain the hardware systems used within the NSW/ACT Division sites. This includes a range of technologies including IBM xSeries servers and disk arrays (SAN), Windows PCs and computer peripherals.
  • Monitor and report on Windows system / server / storage performance, capacity and availability.
  • Develop and maintain system and procedural documentation.
  • Liaise with external service providers for the provision of products or support services.
  • Provide input to technical direction and products.
  • Ensure Windows systems/servers and desktop systems are secured appropriately, patched to the appropriate level and protected from security threats such as viruses. Provide input and recommendation regarding security issues.
  • Ensure Windows servers are backed up and provide input and recommendations regarding recovery issues.

  • Symantec Backup Exec
  • Active Directory
  • Microsoft Exchange Management
  • Anti-virus system administrations, maintenance and support
Other Information
The staff member will, on occasion, be required to travel to the branch office sites.
The staff member will, on occasion, be required to work outside normal business hours.
The staff member will need to liaise with business unit managers, Cardno staff, other Divisional IT staff and work closely with the Cardno Group IT members, and product vendors / suppliers.

Skills, Knowledge and Capabilities required for this role
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a corporate Windows desktop support role.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Windows XP and Server 2003.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory management and Windows security.
  • Experience with a range of printing and multi-function devices.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Able to communicate with the end users and with the other IT team members.
  • Able to work independently without supervision.
  • Effectively respond to staff queries and problem solving daily issues.
  • Self starter who applies individual initiative to get the job done.
  • Desired knowledge and skills:
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange management.
  • Knowledge of Citrix, Cisco network devices.
  • Knowledge and experience in server hardware technologies and networking.
  • Ability to write organizational documentation
