SENIOR LIBRARIAN DIGITIZATION COORDINATOR Library Services (Re-advertisement)

The University of Botswana is seeking a creative and experienced person to lead the establishment and development of the Library’s digital collections and develop the standards, policies and procedures for digitization projects library wide.

Duties: The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordination and implementation of the library digitization projects. Provide leadership, mentoring and supervision to team members in issues involved in digital library and digital archive architecture and usability, and digitization technologies. Management and implementation of digitization projects; understanding and application of laws and regulations governing copyright, publication of and access to digitized records; experience in the preservation of digital images; experience in metadata management; experience in writing fundraising proposals; ability to deliver training; experience in the management and supervision of staff.

Requirements: Masters degree in Library & Information Studies or Archives plus five years post qualification experience working in the academic library environment, with at least three years of experience in digital library development and project leadership OR a bachelors degree with advanced study in relevant technology areas and at least five years experience in digital library development, three of which should be at project leadership; working knowledge of image capture and delivery technologies, full text mark-up and searching methods and database management systems, with in-depth knowledge of at least one these areas; familiarity with one or more scripting languages; working knowledge of XML, HTML, and other web-related mark-up languages; understanding of relational database design and implementation; working knowledge of a variety of image file formats and various popular software products (Adobe Photoshop, PDF, jpg, gif, etc.); and experience with OCR applications are also desired. Competences: Excellent project planning and project management skills. Excellent communication, advocacy and documentation skills. Willingness to work to a flexible schedule, when necessary, to complete projects on time. Ability to plan and strategize a variety of concurrent tasks. Attention to detail and ability to work holistically. Initiative and ability to craft innovative solutions. Excellent management, supervisory and mentorship skills. Sound iterative evaluation skills.
