Internal communications coordinator, Strategy

Christian Aid has a vision – an end to poverty – and we believe that vision can become a reality. To help us on this journey, we’re now looking for an exceptional communications professional to help build our internal communications.

The role is about promoting effective internal communications in support of our exciting new corporate strategy, Partnership for Change; helping staff to understand, respond and contribute to the implementation of the strategy and to share ideas through our corporate communications channels: daily and weekly newsletters, Christian Aid radio and events, and the intranet. That means acting as a partner and consultant to teams across Christian Aid in the UK and internationally, providing advice and guidance, promoting best practice in a devolved and complex organisation operating in 47 countries. Our internal communications are already vibrant, with high levels of engagement; our aspiration now is to develop even more creative communications solutions that promote wider and deeper internal networking, learning and partnerships for change. The role also manages the corporate central archive/retrieval service for paper records and the archiving of electronic records. Christian Aid needs to radically improve its archiving practice and the role will play a central part in helping us manage our archives in a timely and effective way. This is critical for the effective corporate governance.

This is a post in a three-person internal communications team who work as a peer management group that provides a highly supportive environment in which it is possible to learn and extend your skills. You will also be part of the wider Christian Aid communications community that focuses on external communications and marketing.

Coming from a background in communications, it is essential that you have experience in devising and delivering communication strategies and how to communicate for maximum effect and impact. You will be a facilitator of engagement and change, with excellent interpersonal, team working, influencing and communications skills. You will be passionate about networking, learning and helping others to be effective. You will be comfortable with working with teams and individuals at all levels and inclusive and open in your approach. You will have skills in intranet development and maintenance. You must be flexible, willing to roll up your sleeves and get things done. You should be interested in development and enthused by the vision of Christian Aid.
