Christian Aid Programme development officer, Governance

Christian Aid understands that poverty is fundamentally a question of the unequal distribution and unjust use of power, which underpins and perpetuates economic need, exclusion and vulnerability. With Irish Aid funding support, Christian Aid focuses its work to bring about pro-poor government responses and increased stability and security for poor and marginalised people in seven countries affected by high inequality, human rights violations and conflict.

This is an exciting opportunity to guide Christian Aid Ireland’s programming, provide technical expertise and facilitate organisational learning on issues around governance, peace-building and civil/political rights.

The Programme Development Officer, Governance will be based in Dublin, reporting to the Head of Programme Development. The post-holder will work with the Programme Development Unit to coordinate the development, implementation, and monitoring of our governance, rights and peace-building work in collaboration with all Christian Aid stakeholders and Irish Aid. The role is closely linked to the Programme Performance and Insight Division in Christian Aid’s International Department and will play an active role in the process of shaping organisational and programme policy, strategy, and good practice.

To apply for this post you should have a relevant graduate degree; significant experience of working in international development, familiarity with current thinking/debates on governance, human rights and peace-building in international development; proven research capacity and experience of working with academic institutions; excellent facilitation skills and track record of promoting organisational learning and evidence based research; and creative thinking.

This role requires sound knowledge of governance issues, an understanding of partnership and rights based approaches to development along with direct experience of programme management, including participatory planning, monitoring and evaluation of projects. Fluency in English language is mandatory.
