Laboratory Research Analyst - UNESCO-IHE Delft, Netherlands

The UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education offers post-graduate education in Delft, The Netherlands, and carries out research and capacity building projects all over the world. The mission of UNESCO-IHE is to contribute to the education and training of professionals and to build the capacity of sector organizations, knowledge centres and other institutions active in the fields of water, the environment and infrastructure in developing countries and countries in transition.
UNESCO-IHE has a permanent staff of 180, of which 90 are scientific staff, while about 250 guest-lecturers from academia and industry contribute to the educational programme. Each year 750 participants (incl. about 200 new MSc students per year) from all over the world attend the various regular and short courses at UNESCO-IHE.

The overall thrust of the Environmental Engineering and Water Technology Department is to contribute to the provision of safe drinking water, adequate sanitation and resource recovery within the urban water cycle and broader. The department conducts research, provides post-graduate education and training, and supports knowledge institutions and water sector agencies in developing countries and countries in transition. The department consists of the Laboratory and three chair groups, namely, Water Supply Engineering, Sanitary Engineering and Pollution Prevention and Resource Recovery, each headed by a Professor. The Laboratory of Environmental Engineering and Water Technology Department provides post-graduate education and training to professionals in the field of environmental science, carries out research in this area and supports in the building of environmental knowledge centers in the developing world. 

The Laboratory is looking for a new:

LABORATORY RESEARCH ANALYST m/f (1.0 FTE)

Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain small scale pilot plants for the treatment of waste water, surface water and drinking water;
• Guide students during laboratory experiments;
• Analyse water, soil and plant samples;
• Assist in research projects;
• Assist during laboratory courses and fieldwork.

Requirements:

• HLO diploma with (analytical) chemical specialisation;
• Minimum of two years working experience;
• Technical skills;
• Familiar with analytical techniques like AAS, GLC and Ion chromatography;
• Ability to function in a team;
• Accurate, pragmatic and flexible.

Terms of Employment:

This position is, in principle, a permanent one, however, the first contract offered is always temporary.. The position is based in Delft, The Netherlands. A competitive salary (scale 7) is offered depending on qualifications and experience in accordance with the conditions of employment for Dutch Universities. The appointment implies entry into the Netherlands’ Civil Service Pension Fund (ABP).
