Key results expected: Improvement in GAVI’s ability to measure, interpret and verify changes in immunization coverage using innovative methods, to support decision-making, learning and accountability. Main duties/ Responsibilities: • Track levels, trends and uncertainty in the estimation of immunisation coverage in GAVI supported countries from different sources, including administrative systems, WHO/UNICEF estimates and household surveys; • Lead the translation of knowledge related to coverage levels, trends and uncertainty to help inform decision-making and accountability as appropriate; • Track and synthesise the landscape on innovations in the estimation of coverage (e.g. through the use of information technology and biomarkers) and advance thinking around these efforts among GAVI partners; • Explore the applicability of innovation in the estimation of coverage toward GAVI programme design and accountability; • Implement innovative methods to improve measurement of immunization coverage in collaboration with Alliance partners; • Enhance GAVI’s ability to verify reported changes in immunisation coverage over time (e.g. through household surveys, seroprevalence surveys, etc.) and assess the extent to which countries meet their coverage targets for vaccines supported by GAVI.

Note: The essential functions listed in this section are not limited only to the tasks listed and may include other duties as assigned. Academic: • Advanced University Degreein public health or equivalent; • Doctoral level degree required (PhD preferred). Work experience: • Minimum 9 years of work experience in a similar position; • Public and Global Health experience an asset.
Skills/competencies: • Advanced skills in public health research; • Advanced skills in estimation of effective immunisation coverage; • Advanced familiarity with standard survey-based approaches to measuring immunisation coverage, including DHS and MICS; • Advanced skills in infectious disease epidemiology; • Familiarity with recent developments in innovation of coverage estimation, including through the use of information technology and measurement of biomarkers; • Strong organisational and planning skills; • Demonstrated capacity to manage consultants, budgets and deliverables; • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a range of partners to problem solve and advance data measurement methods; • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines; • Good knowledge of institutional or organization policies, systems and procedures; • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment; • Tact and discretion; • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Languages: • Written and spoken Fluency in English; • French or other languages an asset. Internal contacts: • GAVI Secretariat.
