Project Manager Climate Change Adaptation/ Disaster Risk Reduction (m/f), Togo
The German Red Cross (GRC) is part of a worldwide movement assisting victims of conflict and disaster and people affected by social or health related crisis. The Red Cross movement provides vulnerable people with assistance without discrimination as to nationality, race,
religious beliefs, class or political opinions and adheres to the seven principles of the
Red Cross movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality. The German Red Cross assists in disaster response, rehabilitation and capacity building projects internationally on appeals of their sister organizations within the movement.
The German Red Cross is currently looking for an experienced Project Manager in the field of Climate Change Adaptation/ Disaster Risk Reduction: (to be deployed as soon as possible).
Place of assignment: Lomé, Togo
Duration of contract: 1 year (with the possibility of extension)
Key Roles and Responsibilities
The Project Manager in Climate Change Adaptation/Disaster Risk Reduction works as part of the German Red Cross Delegation and is accountable, under the direction and guidance of the Head of Office and Desk Officer, for leading and managing the project planned from 01.01.2013 in all provinces of Togo, covering the key tasks and responsibilities set out below:
• Comprehensive Project Management of a long-term Climate Change Adaptation/Disaster Risk Reduction Project, including finance and administration
• Be responsible for the proper use of training modules for Climate Change/ DRR, including the preparation of trainings materials, in cooperation with the Togo RC
• Training of Togo RC program staff in Community based DRR (CBDRR) skills, project cycle management, Vulnerability and Capacity Assessments, Community Action Planning, Climate Risk Assessments
• Liaise and maintain a close working relationship with different government departments, scientific institutions (e.g. meteorological offices and Universities), NGOs and civil society on behalf of GRC, when appropriate, to ensure a smooth linkage between German RC and other organisations on DRR and CCA related matters
• Narrative and financial reporting, both for German RC and for the donor (BMZ)
Required Skills
• Profound working experience in the field of Climate Change Adaptation, DRR and Capacity Building among communities and partners (preferably in the region)
• Experience in implementing and managing donor funded projects (BMZ experience will be an asset)
• Strong project management skills, particularly PCM and participatory methods
• Knowledge of Red Cross / Red Crescent principles and willingness to adhere to them
• Good interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively and build relationships at all levels, taking into account cultural and language differences
• Assertive, with high intercultural sensitivity
• Readiness to go on assignment without partner/ family posting
• Certified ability to work under tropical conditions (medical check)
• Very good written and oral French & English; knowledge of German would be an strong asset
• Excellent computer skills (Windows XP, spreadsheets, word-processing, databases and other programmes)
We offer our delegates comprehensive training and briefing and medical check-ups before and after missions. A full insurance package, per diem & accommodation are provided during missions. Compensation is according to GRC´s internal wage schedule.
