El Salvador REDD+ Specialist


Education: A Master's degree in forestry, biodiversity, geomatics, environmental science, ecology, or related discipline is required.
Language Proficiency: Level IV (Fluency) English and Spanish level IV is required.
Work Experience: At least five years of experience working in the forests and climate change sector, especially related to financial and incentive mechanisms such as REDD+ and COM is strongly preferred. Solid knowledge of UNFCCC policies and guidelines and forest carbon incentives such as REDD, COM, and voluntary markets, as well is required. Knowledge of Central American protected areas and forest sector and climate change policies, development and management issues is highly desirable.
Position Description: Responsibilities of the REDD+ specialist may include, but are not limited to the following: (1) Provide technical leadership and support to lay out participatory approaches to promote momentum of REDD+ readiness, (2) advise and support CCAD and other key institutions in the development and implementation of their REDD+ initiatives; (3) provide advice to USAID in regional or international discussions of issues relating to REDD+ and related issues; (4) demonstrate experience in assessing climate change impacts and designing projects that reduce those impacts, specifically through reduced deforestation and forest degradation schemes, (5) excellent analytical, writing, communication, presentation, and training skills.
