Overview of the Position
SNV seeks a qualified senior-level Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Specialists for an anticipated USAID-funded program at the intersection of agriculture and land resource management. The project seeks to increase the evidence base and available tools for programming that reaches agriculture and pastoral intensification using land management techniques that enable multiple benefits to people and ecosystems. The objectives are to demonstrate by the end of the project that multiple benefits from sustainable intensification have been achieved using best management approaches that increase agricultural production while also increasing carbon sequestration above and/or below ground on farming and grazing lands; increase biodiversity, by: reducing deforestation rates, increasing natural forests and rangelands, providing ecologically sustainable benefits to local communities, and enhancing ecosystem services; and increase resilience of rural household livelihoods to climate change.
Responsibilities
SNV is seeking candidates who meet the following criteria:
  • An advanced degree is required in a Natural Resources Management field that complements the above Agricultural Natural Resources Production Specialist, with a focus on climate change adaptation and/or mitigation/REDD+ (forest carbon emissions reduction/sequestration);
  • At least ten years of work experience in natural resources management as it relates to adapting to climate change and/or mitigating it in developing country contexts;
  • At least five years of substantial managerial and relevant technical experience based full time in one or more developing countries in each of at least two geographical regions (i.e. Latin America, Africa, Asia, MENA).
  • Excellent oral presentation and writing skills in English.
  • Ability to interact professionally with senior host-government counterparts on policy and other strategic planning issues.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and strong track record in meeting deliverables and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with project partners in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other implementers and teams carrying out USAID- and other donor-funded programs, including activities in different sectors such as agriculture, energy, environment, and democracy/governance.
