Project Engineer - Mechanical
Sandvik Mining supplies a comprehensive range of equipment, tools, services and solutions that help the global mining industry excavate, transport and process ore, safely and productively.We are currently looking for a Project Engineer - Mechanical to be based in our Surrey British Colombia office.
This role is accountable to manage projects, and meet deliverables within the appropriate time frame, quality and budget within the materials handling environment. The scope of the projects include, Open Pit Mining Equipment, Materials Handling Equipment, Stockyard Machines and Harbour Bulk Solids Handling Machines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Mechanical engineering and support for structural design of material handling systems to international codes and standards
- Review of contract specifications, performs mechanical calculations for material handling systems, issuing of specifications and technical information for procurement of components
- Detailed calculation and definition of mechanical equipment (i.e. shafts, pins, couplings, bearings, bolt connections, etc.)
- Defining of system requirements and basic calculations (i.e. drive units, hydraulic system, central lubrication system, dust extraction system, etc.)
- Providing technical input to improve designs and/or cut costs while maintaining
- project specifications, standards, codes and safety
- Ability to delegate and coordinate work between engineering disciplines
- Specifying external engineering work
- Supervision of engineering and structural work, review and check drawings and designs
- Check and review drawings and designs including internal and external drawings, interfaces with other disciplines and checks compatibility of procured items with the design interfaces
- Coordinating engineering work between contractors and other Sandvik offices
- Plan engineering work to meet project deadlines
- Report to Project Manager on engineering progress and support of shop fabrication and installation
- Provide technical input to improve designs and / or cut costs while maintaining project specifications , standards, codes and safety
- Mentoring junior. Inexperienced engineers
Your Profile:
- Technical education in Mechanical Engineering, preferably with a degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 10 years of experience in on – site plant construction and applications or in the bulk solids handling sector
- Extensive experience in material handling system and component design, including mobile material handling machines ( Stackers/ Reclaimers, Shiploaders )
- Proficient in Microsoft Applications Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Minimum 3 years of experience using conveyor design software ( Sidewinder)
- Minimum 3 years of experience in CAD design, preferably in preferably in 3D Unigraphix NX and/or 2D AutoCAD
- Ability to execute basic and detail design, including coordination and delegation of work
- Ability to work directly with clients, strong interpersonal skills, team focused
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with internal engineering teams as well as outside vendors and fabrications
- Ability to travel internationally to participate in client meetings, fabrication supervision and commissioning activities (4 x’s per year minimum)
- Results oriented, ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Fluent both written and verbal in English
