Quality Engineer— Mining Equipment

Sandvik Mining is a business area within the Sandvik Group and a leading global supplier of equipment and tools, service and technical solutions for the mining industry. The offering covers rock drilling, rock cutting, rock crushing, loading and hauling and materials handling.
Key performance areas
As a Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a quality management system as you routinely interact with key suppliers, customers, marketing representatives and production staff. You must be ready to join a team of other engineers/technicians and get to work immediately leading and improving quality of incoming material and finished products. You will drive continuous improvements within all facility activities, and devise and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Further, the Quality Engineer will lead training for new equipment on the manufacturing floor as well as training staff in quality systems, inspection techniques and methods, and customer requirements. You will report directly to the Production Manager, as your role is an expansion hire within the business unit.
Additionally, the Quality Engineer will:
  • Lead, Implement and maintain APQP efforts in the facility; commencing with in process verification through development of FMEAs and Control plans
  • Developing procurement specifications (Critical Characteristics) and working with engineering, current and new suppliers on quality-related issues
  • Ensure good coordination and communication with site sourcing, purchasing, and production teams as required in your quality role.
  • Conduct regular internal process and system audits.
  • Lead and coordinate the establishment of relevant processes and procedures which meet the latest requirements of ISO9001.
In addition to holding a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering (mechanical/industrial engineering is preferred), you possess three years’ experience in quality control at an assembly manufacturing facility (Industrial Equipment, Farm equipment, or Mining Equipment). This is a hands-on role requiring frequent engagement with hourly operators, but you also will be familiarwith Lean/Six Sigma tools and you have implemented transformative change in a manufacturing environment. It is important you are experienced with quality management systems such as ISO 9001 and have participated in audits with these systems.
Candidates should also possess:
  • Experience working under demanding deadlines
  • Good presentation and leadership skills
  • Ability to organize multiple, simultaneous priorities
  • A willingness to be part of a team
  • 20% travel is expected in this role.
