Collaboratory Project Manager (Water and Disability)

The School of Science, Engineering and Health at Messiah College currently has an opening for the position of Collaboratory Project Manager (Water and Disability). This is a full time, temporary, 4 year (in anticipation of grant funding), professional position.

The Collaboratory Project Manager is a project and field research manager who coordinates day-to-day activities under the technical direction of a Principal Investigator (PI). Core requirements include coordination of project research and training agendas with the PI and all partner organizations; organization and training of university student teams; project-related international travel; budget management; satisfying grant reporting requirements; and documenting project outcomes. The focus of the Water and Disability Project is to enhance access to water and sanitation facilities by disabled persons in communities served by World Vision programs in West Africa.

Education and experience required includes a bachelor’s degree, at least 1 year of living and working in a developing country (preferably sub-Saharan Africa) and French language proficiency Preferred experience includes 1 year of project and team management , water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects, and work with persons affected by disability.

Other required skills include: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to nurture and manage cross-cultural working relationships in French; motivated self-starter with ability to manage multiple priorities with limited supervision; excellent organizational skills; rigorous attention to detail; ability to equip and lead project team members in the completion of project tasks; ability to train university students to work, serve and travel in West Africa; capable of managing the project budget and satisfying all internal and external requirements for budget planning and reporting; experience mentoring, or willingness to learn to guide young adult Christians to live out their faith and increase their vocational vision.

Must be available up to 3-4 evening hours per week and occasional weekend hours for work with the student leader and project team; multi-week international travel is required 4-6 times per year.

The Collaboratory is a center at Messiah College for applied research and project-based learning, in partnership with client non-profit organizations, businesses, governments, and communities in our region and around the world. Areas of engagement include science, engineering, health, information technology, business, and education. The twofold mission is:
• To foster justice, empower the poor, promote peace, and care for the earth through applications of academic and professional disciplines.
• To increase the academic and professional abilities of participants (students and faculty), their vocational vision for lifelong servant-leadership, and their courage to act on convictions.
