Communication Specialist (Intranet) - UNICEF

Purpose of the Position

The purpose of the post is to guide the development and maintenance of the PFP Intranet pages. PFP currently has more than 14 databases on the intranet developed independently. The Intranet Manager will be responsible for ensuring future development is coordinated using common resources and technical capacity.
Under the supervision of the Communication Manager, Internal Communication and the strategic guidance of the Chief of Communication, and in collaboration with the Internal Communication Reference Group, you will be responsible for providing expertise and support to section and unit chiefs in order to maximize their communication capacities through the UNICEF intranet.

Key Expected Results

1. You will develop and implements a strategy for engaging PFP and National Committee staff in a collaborative intranet environment. Identify the needs and solutions for PFP sections to share information with internal colleagues and external partners. Ensure an accurate and immediate source of information for staff and National Committee partners. Collaborate closely with all PFP sections in the future development of databases, ensuring adherence to branding and design guide standards.

2. You will guide the development of the UNICEF intranet. Keep abreast of technical developments that can be exploited by PFP and disseminated across the sections. Design and prototypes future solutions. Enlist the support of ITSS and other internal resources. Identify and engages external consultants for specific development tasks that cannot be undertaken with internal resources. Deliver the sites and new tools ensuring correct performance. Coordinate web project development across PFP sections and develops modular solutions that can be used in all databases.

3. You will develop and maintain a design guide in consultation with the Design Specialist to ensure all databases are developed with a PFP brand respecting UNICEF standards and ensuring a consistent look and feel across web sites. Collaborate closely with NY colleagues on issues of branding, taxonomy, internal communication.

4. You will promote the PFP site internally and with National Committees. Through different media and channels enlists the engagement of staff and partners to provide and benefit from data shared on the intranet.

5. You will monitor web traffic using internal and external tools to create benchmarks to engender a better understanding of what pages and elements work and what do not. Organize and execute an annual web survey of the different PFP intranet audiences.

Qualifications of Successful Candidate

Advanced University Degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in information technology and web design with a strong background in communication or a related technical field. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Five years working in the field of information technology and web design and with a strong background in communication between end users and technical expertise. Experience in SharePoint, Lotus Notes, Java script, Flash development, CSS code, HTML, Web design tools, Photoshop and Illustrator, and knowledge of the Notes Domino environment including issues of security and administration. Experience in UNICEF and familiarity with the needs and functioning of UNICEF National Committees would be an asset.

Fluency in English. Knowledge of another UN language preferably French or Spanish would be desirable.
