Country Director – Sri Lanka

An international development organization is looking to hire a Country Director for their Sri Lanka operations. The organization opened an office in Sri Lanka in 1986 in order to provide direct assistance to those affected by violence and natural disasters. In recent years, the organization’s development programme focuses on water and sanitation provision (linked to hygiene education), agriculture and food security, livelihoods and market access, gender equity and relationship building programmes with communities affected by conflict and natural disasters. The incumbent will be responsible to lead and manage the country programmes in Sri Lanka through implementing of an agreed strategy, mobilizing resources, managing a humanitarian response and the development programme, and assume leadership of the international processes.

Qualifications & Experience:

• First degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g. economics/ politics/ sociology/ humanities etc.) or equivalent substantial experience

• Minimum of 15 years of experience in strategic design, management and implementation of development focused programmes/humanitarian response programmes at a country-wide level. Experience of international rights based programme development/advocacy will be preferred.

• Highly strategic in thinking, with the ability to manage the development of, and contribute to, the analysis of factors driving poverty, marginalization and vulnerability in developing country contexts.

• Strong operations management experience i.e. financial/budgetary management, human resources management and Information Technology. Ability to develop & implement operating systems/processes to ensure delivery of efficient/quality programmes.

• Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to manage/motivate high performing teams (based in multiple locations).

• Proven ability to work in partnership with multiple stakeholders within development, advocacy & humanitarian content – i.e. with government agencies, INGOs/local NGOs, international bodies, community led organizations, donors etc.

• Knowledge and experience of fundraising including the identification of new fundraising opportunities and partnerships to support programme implementation.

• Excellent representational skills; with the ability to influence positive change(across external/internal stakeholders).

• Good written & verbal communication skills (in English).

• Understanding of managing security, health and safety and risk within an INGO context.

• Highly results oriented, with the ability to work in a highly complex/multi-stakeholder working environment.

The incumbent will report to the Regional Director (South Asia) and manage a team of approximately 60 people.
