ECPC – Director of Operation

The European Cancer Patient Coalition, a Brussels based NGO representing 300 cancer patient groups across EU27 and beyond, is seeking to recruit a Director to lead the organization’s ambitious development programme. You will need to have a strategic understanding of the subtle interplay between politics, policy and advocacy together with a working knowledge of the key bodies involved at a pan European level. Since much of your work will be representing the outward face of the organization your interpersonal and communication skills must be superlative. You will also be required to manage a small staff, oversee the various projects the organization is involved in, including some EU programmes with other partners, and ensure sound financial practice is maintained. You will report to a Board, who will agree strategy and provide oversight, and will need to cultivate close working relationships with our funders.

JOB OBJECTIVE

The ECPC Director of Operation will be responsible for supporting the development of ECPC’s activities in line with ECPC’s vision, mission and values. The position will include an active role in supporting ECPC’s influence in member states. As such, extensive experience working with European and national patient organizations is essential.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The role includes management, public relations, the development of strategy and external and internal communications related to ECPC issues.

  • Represent ECPC at targeted meetings, conferences, and congresses (as appropriate) to extend networks and enhance public relations
  • Initiate, maintain and develop relationships with key stakeholders
  • Support the development and delivery of public affairs related information and materials with policy team
  • Preparations of meetings, compile supporting papers, liaise with participants, and deal with the practical arrangements
  • Work closely with the ECPC Head of External Relations on the above.

SKILL SPECIFICATION

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Attention to detail, and well organized
  • 3 years or more working with patient organizations or similar
  • Ability to take initiative, and prioritise
  • Proactive attitude and team player
  • Service mind-set
  • Ability to function efficiently in an international multi-tasking work environment
  • Fluent English and French – good command of other European languages would be an asset
  • Computer skills, including good knowledge of MS Office and Internet

PROFILE & EXPERIENCE

  • University degree or equivalent management/EU experience
  • Proven track record of networking capabilities in a multi-cultural patient environment
  • Good understanding/ working knowledge of European Institutions and procedures
  • Team Player
  • Excellent management skills
  • Knowledge of healthcare, cancer issues and oncology is important
  • Must be willing to travel
