2. About IAVI’s European Programme

This programme conducts Resource Mobilization, Advocacy and Communications activities for the organization in the region Europe. Run from the office in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, a team of 13 staff manage national and European programmes in over 10 countries and at the EU. The programme is supported by consultants and civil society organizations and targets a broad spectrum of IAVI’s stakeholders including donors, political community, civil society, the scientific community and media.

3. Position Summary

The Specialist will primarily be responsible for the timely and structured management of the relationship with a subset of IAVI’s key European donors, in addition to the identification and enrolment of prospective donors, both in the private and public sector, in a number of the European countries in which IAVI works. This will include targeting prospect donors, developing proposals and engaging in donor stewardship, and preparing communications related to the monitoring and reporting on grants.

4. Key Responsibilities

4.1 Fundraising and proposal development
The specialist will be responsible for the continued commitment of existing donors and expansion of funding opportunities where possible. Key tasks are identifying new donors and leading proposal teams across several departments and different regions.
4.2 Donor Relationship Management
The specialist will responsible for the management and documentation of day-to-day communications with an assigned portfolio of existing IAVI donors. Tasks are managing donor expectations and leading/supporting external IAVI donor events.
4.3 Grant Management
The specialist will be the primary contact between the organization and assigned portfolio of donors in terms of grant management and reporting. This role is responsible for the timely delivery of progress and final reports to grantees, including management and writing of programme narratives and coordination of financial reports..
4.4 Resource Development Support
The specialist will provide input into overall resource development strategy and ensure cross-departmental communication to identify and develop opportunities to further IAVI’s mission.

5. Experience and Skills

  • A minimum of 5 years of fundraising or related resource mobilization experience with both public and private sectors. Or a minimum of 5 years of experience in a business development position, responsible for the acquisition of major clients (€ 1 million plus) and experience in handling complex client accounts and activities ranging from relationship management to account management
  • Native or near native English language skills, excellent writing and oral presentation skills. Working knowledge of one of the Scandinavian languages is considered an asset.
  • Used to dealing with challenging deadlines and in coordinating multi-disciplinary teams across countries and cultures.
  • Capable of understanding complex scientific information and translating that information into clear communications. Background or affinity with the scientific research field or global health is considered an asset,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a team player with a strong eye for detail who can handle multiple challenges and enjoys working in a fast paced environment
  • Experience with financial and budget procedures, as well as familiarity in working with financial tracking and management systems an asset.
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

7. FTE

1.0 FTE, although 0.8 FTE is negotiable.

8. Salary indication

€ 40.000 – € 50.000 based on full-time employment. Final salary depending on experience and match of candidate’s profile to the job profile.
IAVI offers participation in a pension plan and provides all the legal insurance for all her employees. Training and education are encouraged and supported.
