Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator

With a staff of almost 50 people and offices in Johannesburg and Cape Town, Sonke Gender Justice works across Africa to strengthen government, civil society and citizen capacity to support men and boys to take action to promote gender equality, prevent domestic and sexual violence and reduce the spread and impact of HIV and AIDS.

Sonke seeks to appoint a highly skilled and motivated Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Coordinator to take over the development, implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive and sophisticated M&E system for the organisation, including development of monitoring and evaluation tools, processes and reports. The M&E Officer will also be responsible for the design and implementation of research into the effectiveness of Sonke’s projects and programmes.

Responsibilities:

* Planning and developing a comprehensive M&E system for Sonke, including coordinating the development of an M&E database system with online forms;
* Working closely with project teams to ensure that process and outcomes monitoring is planned for and specific M&E requirements are addressed;
* Overseeing the collection and inputting of M&E data in both the Cape Town and Johannesburg offices;
* Analysis of M&E data and submission of reports to the management team and for inclusion in donor reports;
* Training Sonke staff on the use of M&E tools and systems;
* Designing and implementing research projects to evaluate the impact of Sonke’s work at both project and programmes level;
* Collaborate with external researchers on research relating to work with men and boys to reduce gender-based violence and the spread and impact of HIV and AIDS;
* Prepare articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentations for international conferences.

Requirements:

* Masters or PhD, preferably relating to Gender or public Health, or equivalent research-based qualification;
* Minimum of five years’ work experience in Monitoring and Evaluation, including the design and implementation of M&E systems, and the design and implementation of qualitative evaluative research;
* A solid understanding of issues of masculinities, gender inequality, violence and HIV in the African context;
* Strong leadership skills;
* The ability to work under pressure;
* The ability to take initiative and work independently or in a team;
* Willingness to travel;
* A high level of computer literacy;
* Excellent written and spoken English;
* Preference will be given to applicant based in Cape Town and those proficient in languages spoken in the region.

Salary: R358 000 - R440 000 per annum.
