Mount Royal University is one of Alberta's oldest post-secondary educational institutions. Established as a college in 1910, Mount Royal became a university in September, 2009. The Bissett School of Business prepares students for successful careers in today's global economy with more than just classroom theory. Students benefit from work terms that develop practical skills. Bissett offers a wide array of undergraduate degrees, applied degrees, as well as diploma and certificate programs including an undergraduate Bachelor of Business Administration with majors in Accounting, General Management, Human Resources and Marketing, a diploma in Aviation, and as well other areas of specialty including Entrepreneurship, Financial Services, Insurance, International Business, Non-profit Studies, and Supply Chain Management. Bissett includes small entrepreneurial enterprises, family businesses, non-profit organizations, and social enterprises in its business definition and places a high value on entrepreneurial behaviour at the individual and firm level, offering focused programs to allow students to develop in these areas. Our small class sizes allow for close student-professor contact and a strong campus identity.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President Academic, the Dean provides academic and administrative leadership to the Bissett School of Business. Working closely with department Chairs, other Deans/Directors and Officers, the Dean will plan and evaluate academic programs, facilities and equipment needs and financial al strategies, and coordinate the work of all departments to maximize learning opportunities for students and realize University objectives. Through familiarity with instructional programs and overall University goals and needs, the Dean provides leadership, coordination and facilitation of learning and administrative activities in the Faculty and the University. The Dean will assess relevant operating information for the formulation of policies and priorities, articulate the goals, objectives and priorities of the School on an annual basis, and ensure that the activities of the school conform to established goals and priorities. Among the Dean's chief responsibilities is ensuring the attainment of the highest possible standards in every dimension of the School's activities, from personnel recommendations and the integration of academic services through to the operation of academic programs.

The ideal candidate is a forward thinking visionary with outstanding leadership qualities and experience in administration gained within a post secondary institution. A successful background managing budgets, faculty, staff, and students is required, and applicants must have experience working with funding, grants and related processes for research. Adept at teaching and mentoring students, this role calls for an accessible leader, one who is entrepreneurial and creative, fosters innovation, and is capable of rallying and mentoring staff and faculty and creating a positive work culture. Real business experience and an understanding of the corporate world are required, and candidates must be adept at managing relationships and creating partnerships with external stakeholders. A graduate degree is mandatory, while a doctoral degree is preferred.
