OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME : Within the framework of global health security, the Global Alert and Response Department (GAR) is tasked with preparing for, and responding to international public health threats caused by epidemic-prone diseases. | |
Description of duties: 1) Advocacy (40%) :Develop advocacy products (multimedia, brochures, briefing papers, documents, toolkits) to support implementation of ARO key products: Event Management System, IHR Event Information Site, GOARN portal. Work with GOARN partners to develop new initiatives for advocacy, resource mobilization and monitoring and evaluation of activities. 2) Risk Communication(30%): Based on technical input from disease and threat-specific experts, prepare and disseminate WHO's risk communication products to Member States under IHR. 3) Social Mobilization (30%): Support development of COMBI global platform through strategic communications and products (ie. newsletters, updates, meetings). Document and evaluate lessons learnt from previously deployed risk communication and social mobilization experts to inform guidelines, tools, and best practice Support development of COMBI trainings for GOARN outbreak readiness and response programmes | |
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS | |
Education: *Essential University degree in communications and/or writing.* | |
Skills: Competencies: *1. Communicating in a credible and effective way *2. Producing results *3. Fostering integration and teamwork Knowledge of WHO alert and response activities, application of IHR (2005), understanding of event-based surveillance and the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN). Demonstrated ability to deliver projects involving multiple partners. Ability to function effectively in a cross-cultural team and under time pressure. Proficient in the use of word processing, database and data analysis software and social networking media. | |
Experience: *Essential At least five years of progressively responsible experience in risk communications and networking at international level. Desirable: Demonstrated practical experience in managing risk communication for acute public health events | |
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English with a good working knowledge of French. | |

Annual salary: (Net of tax) $ 55 259 at single rate $ 59 200 with primary dependants | Post Adjustment: 92.2 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation. |
