JOB SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of the Psychiatrist will be to improve the provision of mental health services by directly supervising the implementation, direct care and evaluation of the mental health care program activities.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Work closely with International Medical Corps medical doctors to plan and implement Community based mental health care activities in line with International Medical Corps Chad annual plan and objectives.
  2. Provide ongoing training and supervision for PHC nurses in psychiatric nursing, community based mental health care, psychology and mental hygiene.
  3. Organize and conduct training for community health workers for identification and referral of patients presenting mental disorders.
  4. Develop comprehensive case management plan for psychiatric patients.
  5. Strengthen coordination mechanism between primary health care, SGBV, HIV and AIDS, mental health and psychosocial services.
  6. In consultation with the medical doctor, identify potential donors and develop funding proposals.
  7. Participate in coordination meeting and develop partnerships with other humanitarian organizations working in the field of mental health and psychosocial services.
  8. Coordinate program activities with community leaders among refugees and local population.
  9. In consultation with Finance department and the Medical Director, manage and monitor the budget allocated for program activities.
  10. Assist PHC and psychosocial staff in clinical services for mentally ill in designing and supervising community based mental health care services

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  1. Graduate degree in Psychiatry
  2. Post graduate training in community health
  3. Hold a current license/registration in clinical psychiatry
  4. Three to Five years of clinical experience and community mental health
  5. Able to represent International Medical Corps Chad at psychiatric conferences/ workshops
  6. Experience in facilitating psychosocial activities/group of children, adolescents, and adults.
  7. Excellent training skills, including on the job and formal training.
  8. Ability to work with a broad spectrum of people from different multi-cultural backgrounds and experiences working with interpreters.
  9. Extremely flexible with ability to cope with stressful situations and challenging conditions with limited resources.
  10. Must be able to write technical reports in English and meet reporting deadlines.
  11. Previous experience working in a humanitarian emergency context is required.
  12. Any other duties as required

LANGUAGES

  • Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret, technical and non-technical in the English language.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond appropriately to questions from senior managers in the field and HQ, counterparts, senior government and rebel leaders and other related regional players
  • Fluency in French required. Fluency in Arabic a plus.
