The School of Humanities and Communication Arts brings together scholars with interdisciplinary research interests in the following fields: advertising, animation, anthropology, Asian studies, cultural studies, graphic design, history, international relations, journalism, linguistics and modern languages (Arabic, Chinese, Italian, Japanese and Spanish), literature and literary studies, media and visual studies, media production, music recording and performance, music therapy, performance, philosophy, photography, political and social theory, religious studies, and web design. Their research intersects with the focal areas of a range of University Research Institutes and Centres: the Institute for Culture and Society, Centre for Citizenship and Public Policy, Centre for the Study of Contemporary Muslim Societies, MARCS Auditory Laboratories, and the Writing and Society Research Centre.

Applications are invited for the continuing position of Level B Lecturer from scholars with teaching and research strengths in Chinese language. The key task of the position will be to teach into the Chinese major, which provides theoretical knowledge and practical training in Chinese (Mandarin), intended for professional use, especially in areas such as language teaching and translation & interpreting. The units in this major cover the four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), different levels of linguistic analysis (phonological, morpho-syntactic, semantic and pragmatic) as well as socio-cultural aspects. Theoretical presentations are combined with analysis of a variety of texts and oral discourses and, in some units, a range of Computer Assisted Language Learning activities. This position will also teach into the NAATI-accredited Interpreting and Translation programs, which provide students with appropriate training and theoretical background to equip them to work as professional interpreters or translators. The successful applicant will have a PhD and a demonstrable record of excellent teaching and high-level international publications in an area relevant to Chinese language and/or interpreting and translation.

The School operates in a multi-campus environment and the successful applicant is expected to teach on all campuses on which the School operates in face-to-face teaching delivery and/or through blended learning technologies. This position is located at the Bankstown campus.

Remuneration Package: Lecturer (Academic Level B) $96,915 to $114,314 p.a. (comprising Salary of $81,894 to $96,703 p.a. 17% Superannuation, and Leave Loading).
