Professor / Associate Professor The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies

The mission of the Yves Oltramare Chair is to bring a major scientific contribution to the analysis of the impact of the relationships between religion and politics on the evolution of societies and the international system. It must contribute to reinforcing dialogue and seeking responses to the problems resulting from these relationships, mainly through strong interaction with the principal stakeholders, experts and international actors (governments, non-governmental organisations, etc).

Candidates must hold a PhD or a title deemed equivalent, in the social sciences, with a preference for anthropology, history, political science or sociology. They must have a strong publication record and demonstrate an ability to embrace the thematic broadly, that is to go beyond an expertise centered on a religious movement or a specific region. They must be able to develop exchanges and cooperation with colleagues from other disciplines as well as to interact with experts and international actors working in this field.

The chair-holder will teach courses related to her/his discipline at the master and PhD levels and provide courses for interdisciplinary masters to familiarise a large number of students with this field study. She or he will supervise master and doctoral theses.

The teaching language is either English or French. Knowledge of French is not required, but the selected candidate is expected to acquire at least a passive knowledge of it.

The chair-holder is expected to carry out research projects funded on a competitive basis and supervise research fellows working on these projects. Finally, she or he will ensure the dissemination of knowledge by organising an international symposium every year as well as expert seminars and lectures to contribute to dialogue and forwardlooking reflection in the Chair’s area of focus.

Starting on 1 September 2012 or on a mutually agreed-upon date.
