Gender, Peace and Security and Peace-building Projects

The Conflict Management and Peace-building Division of the ISS seeks to contribute to sustainable peace through improved management of conflicts and improved provisioning of security. In order to assist in fulfilling this purpose, the Division invites applications from suitable candidates to fill in two internship positions with research focus areas on gender, peace and security and peace-building.

The successful candidates will be expected to work under the guidance of the Division’s Senior Research Fellow and will be responsible for a range of duties, including providing research support, performing internet and library searches to obtain relevant information, collating documents, assisting in organising seminars and workshops and conducting field research.

A modest monthly stipend will be provided. The length of the internship will be for a period of 6 months.

Requirements:

  • The candidate should have a Honours degree in the social sciences
  • Good knowledge of peace and security issues in Africa and an interest in gender
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Good networking abilities
  • Ability to speak French will be an advantage.
