The Department of History at Durham University seeks to appoint an early-career lecturer in African History with a specialism in the history of north-eastern Africa - broadly defined to embrace the region from Egypt to Tanzania - since c. 1800 CE. Durham University is home to the internationally-renowned Sudan Archive, and the Department of History has an established reputation as a centre for the study of the region, and a significant profile in research dissemination and engagement with non-academic research users. The History Department at Durham is also one of the UK's leading departments in undergraduate teaching, with African history as an important element of a diverse programme. The appointee will work with Professor Justin Willis and Dr Cherry Leonardi to develop research and teaching at all levels.
