Nutrition Advisor Concern Worldwide

Concern Worldwide U.S. is an independent affiliate of Concern Worldwide and supports the Concern network by recruiting staff, supporting program development, creating public awareness of humanitarian issues and financially supporting programs.

Role
The Nutrition Advisor’s prime responsibility is to ensure a high quality of technical support to Concerns nutrition work in emergency and development contexts; and to develop and document best practices and promote organizational learning.

Based in New York with approximately 40% travel, the Nutrition Advisor will report to the Operations Director and will have a close working relationship with the Senior Nutrition Advisor and the Health Support Unit, Concern Worldwide Dublin.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and technical support to nutrition programs that prevent under-nutrition and or treat malnutrition (i.e. CMAM) in the form of program/project design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation;
  • Facilitate cross country learning, synthesis, documentation and sharing of experience/learning of nutrition within the organization;
  • Help develop internal organizational nutrition training and development of tools/guidelines/standards to improve program quality;
  • Foster technical capacity building of field staff through technical updates, training opportunities, exchange visits, literature sharing, etc.;
  • Actively engage in nutrition networks with key institutions/agencies, universities, and donors within the USA as appropriate;
  • Participate in recruitment for technical nutrition positions in countries;
  • Support on request, the exploration and preparation of nutrition funding requests;
  • Provide input into Concern US promotional, media and communications materials on nutrition
  • Participate as a member of Concern’s Rapid Deployment Unit, responding to a humanitarian emergency, as necessary;
  • Contribute to the overall mission of Concern Worldwide US and assist other members of the Concern team as requested.

Requirements

  • Masters (MSc) in Nutrition/Public Health or BA in Nutrition/Public Health
  • At least three to five (3-5) years experience working in nutrition and/or health programs in developing countries
  • Excellent inter-personal, communications and facilitation skills
  • Familiar with global and regional international health and nutrition networks
  • Skills in training and mentoring
  • Ability to work within multi-cultural teams
  • Ability to manage own work
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure

Desirable:

  • Field experience in the prevention of under-nutrition and a strong understanding of the SUN framework and 1,000 days campaign
  • Field experience in emergency response or post-conflict setting
  • Experience working in CMAM including scale up and integration into MoH systems
  • Experience with representation at national, regional or global nutrition networks
  • Experience in broader health programming; including HIV AIDS.
  • Experience with operational research and peer-review writing
  • Currently authorized to work in the US
