The CBI is the UK's leading business lobbying organisation and a powerful voice in EU policy debates. With offices throughout the UK, Brussels, Washington, Beijing and Delhi, the CBI has a truly global footprint and promotes the interests of its members at regional, national, European and international level.

We are currently looking for a pro-active and experienced policy adviser with demonstrable interest and expertise in European public policy as well as the ability to represent the views of business at national, European and international levels.

The successful candidate will be required to lead high-profile campaigns and lobbying strategies on behalf of CBI and its membership as well as contribute to the formulation of CBI positions, particularly in the field of the single market, financial services and corporate governance. The role also offers the platform to work closely with senior business and political stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead in the development of CBI lobbying campaigns on key single market issues, financial services and corporate affairs vis-à-vis the European Institutions;
  • Formulate, in liaison with CBI colleagues and members, position papers, briefing materials and opinion pieces;
  • Provide timely information, intelligence and analysis to CBI colleagues and members;
  • Develop and maintain key contacts with partner organisations and other key stakeholders;
  • Promote the interests of business.

Skills and Expertise

  • University degree qualified, preferably in political or economic science or similar directly related academic qualification. Postgraduate degree(s) is an advantage;
  • Considerable work experience in politics, business or business associations, consultancy and governmental and European Institutions or similar related area;
  • Proven experience of writing and/or editing policy papers;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  • Experience of developing and executing lobbying and communication campaigns is an advantage;
  • Knowledge and understanding of UK politics and single market and financial services is desirable. Lead on the research and management of Policy Network projects on socio-economic and European affairs.
