Ensure that the course offer is closely linked to the practice of professionals at AU, RECs, and member states.

• Lead Facilitator(s) for Executive Master’s Programme (MPSA)

Consultancy: approximately 90 days within one year. About 15 days every two months according to a defined schedule, starting in September 2012 or May 2013


Objectives

• Ensure the facilitation of one batch of the MPSA course is:
based on the detailed curriculum / schedule provided
in line with the facilitation guideline and high standards of IPSS

Principal tasks

• Facilitate six attendance sessions within one year
• Develop distance learning assignments
• Implement the grading of all assignments through the Moodle system
• Lead and implement the on-going monitoring and evaluation

• Ensure that the course-specific section of our on-line learning platform Moodle is updated and ready for use
• Support the further development and refinement of the curriculum

• Support the further development of the methodology/facilitation guidelines

• Ensure training delivery meets all formal requirements and matches agreed standards

• Ensure usability of training facilities and equipment

• Tutor participants towards their declared learning objectives

Reporting

The position reports to the Training Leader

The position coordinates with professional and support staff

• Institute for Peace and Security Studies

• Addis Ababa University


Special Qualifications

o Relevant university degree (MA or PhD)
o Excellent command of English; at least oral command of French, Arabic or Portuguese

o At least 15 years professional experience, with a minimum of 8 years in peace and security

o A minimum of 5 years professional experience in a non-academic environment (this may include consulting)
o Substantial experience in the delivery of advanced training for professionals
o Substantial experience in the facilitation of workshops
o Substantial exposure to different African countries and other continents

o National of a member state of the African Union

o Self-starter; results oriented; self-organized; willing and able to work in an often difficult and highly complex environment; outstanding work ethics
o Team player with a true interest in other people
o Willing and able to:
• work in a multi-cultural, pan-African setting
• continuously meet demanding work standards / global good practice

• flexibly adjust to frequent changes of specific objectives, priorities and institutional set-up
• contribute significantly and demonstrably to the programme’s mission

• Solid professional background in peace & security or related fields; your own expertise shall allow you to easily communicate with top experts; of critical importance are your interest and ability to rapidly grasp new ideas and situations, and to communicate clearly on these issues.
