The NPD Chip Products team is a global business unit dedicated to identifying, assessing, and implementing innovative emerging payment solutions for the benefit of the American Express Network. The team is focused on ensuring American Express maintains compliance to industry-led standards such as EMV, as well as driving innovation in areas like Contactless and Mobile. The European Chip Standards Manager is an exciting opportunity for a qualified manager to ensure American Express is effectively represented in relevant European Standards bodies. The manager will work closely with the Chip Products team, the European Governance Board Management Office (EGBMO), other Global Network Business (GNB) teams and General Counsels Office (GCO) to represent American Express at relevant forums as well as monitoring and considering the European Standards body direction and the implications to the American Express Network and Chip Product development efforts.
He/She will be joining a fast-paced environment with the responsibility for directly participating to key relevant Industry forums such as but not exclusively to European Payment Council Working Groups and chosen industry consortium. The European Chip Standards Manager will have to forge a network of Subject Matter Experts both internally and externally, act as an expert in Payment Standards and make recommendations to multiple stakesholder groups specifically on the evaluation of new payment standards and the implications and/or opportunities to existing business models for American Express.
Responsibilities include:
  • Interact with and represent American Express on external industry bodies / working groups.
  • Develop relevant communication material (written and oral) to update and educate stakeholders and other business units across the organization. Material will be technical and or business in nature and will cater to different types of audiences
  • Work with Product SME teams to understand and document the impact of Industry discussions and assist in the creation of relevant business case development as required.
  • Prepare for external discussions by sharing the agenda with relevant groups and to lead alignment meetings to ensure American Express views are represented in the relevant forums.
  • Act as central point person to ensure American Express initiatives in line with industry wide efforts.

  • Undergraduate degree and / or experience in the Payments Industry.
  • Working knowledge of Emerging Payments such as EMV / Contactless / Mobile.
  • Expertise or technical knowledge of current Terminal Configuration, Certification and different standards.
  • A solid understanding of the European Payments landscape.
  • Feel at ease in working groups with external companies and an appetite to shape and contribute to technical standards.
  • Demonstrate strong collaborative and communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • An ability to explain and translate complex subject matter into clear business language.
  • A proven ability to prioritize, track and deliver results.
