The Opportunity

We are looking for a Principal Advisor - Reputation and Issues Management to lead the strategy and implementation of a work to align the the group’s media, digital, employee communications, brand and marketing communications activities.

The Media and Communications team is designed to protect and enhance the corporate brand and reputation through proactive communication and engagement with key stakeholders, employees, partners and communities. The team also undertake the strategy and implementation of the Group’s media, digital and marketing communications initiatives.

What the role entails

This position is a great opportunity for an experienced Media and Communications professional to support, develop and lead the development of a group-wide reputation strategy for one of the world’s leading mining organisations. Based in Montreal, Salt Lake City, Brisbane, Perth or Singapore and reporting to the Media Relations Global Practice leader, you will be accountable for:
  • Supporting the development and leading on the implementation of a group wide reputation strategy for Rio Tinto
  • Developing the messaging strategy and a proactive content plan, in partnership with the editorial leads, media, communications, branding and digital teams
  • Supporting an active network across external affairs, media, communications, brand, investor relations and the business to develop messaging opportunities and speaking platforms
  • Facilitating the monthly reputation planning meeting, compiling the agenda, tracking progress and determining actions
  • Supporting the measurement strategy and approach for the Media and Communications team in reputation, brand and media evaluation
  • Developing a speaker platform for the Chief Executive and relevant Executive Committee members whilst aligning speaking activity globally with a proactive planned approach for key executives
  • Assisting in speech development and delivery, using freelance support as required, for key executives
  • Developing content and messaging strategy with both the external and internal editorial roles
  • Managing the group wide issues briefing centre, with support from Brand and Marketing Communications
What you will need for the role
To succeed in this exciting and challenging role, you will have:
  • An extensive background and/or degree in a Communications, Journalism, Media or Marketing discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in managing communications for a global organisation;
  • Experience in developing and implementing communication and reputation strategies
  • Understanding of processes in compiling, sharing and aligning key corporate messaging systems in a complex organisation
  • Strong communications and relationship management skills
  • The ability leverage internal networks for sharing of knowledge, experience, resources and skills
Practical experience in project management is desirable. Team and contract management skills will be highly regarded.
