Accountant, Sustainable Environmental and Economic Development (SEED)

Management and Engineering Technologies International, Inc. (METI), in collaboration with the US Forest Service (USFS), as a part of the US Agency for International Development’s (USAID) bilateral programs in Jordan, may seek a full-time Accountant for a USAID/USFS project. The Accountant will be responsible for the effective and efficient processing of financial data. S/he applies accounting principles and procedures, provides accurate and timely financial information to the SEED Project Director and the USFS Washington DC office staff, and ensures appropriate accounting control procedures. Contracts of the selected personnel will be extended every year upon satisfactory completion of all duties.
Position Description
Responsibilities of the Accountant include, but are not limited to:
  • Prepare cash payments and ensure that all cash transactions are fully and properly documented.
  • Manage and disburse petty cash.
  • Record cash payment vouchers daily in the petty cash file.
  • Manage checks or wire transfer requests based on approved documents and present to approved check signers for review and signature.
  • Manage bank payment vouchers and ensure that all bank transactions are properly documented.
  • Generate and distribute checks.
  • Record bank payment vouchers daily in the bank log book.
  • Maintain journal entries of all Accounting transactions.
  • Input financial data into the Accounting software.
  • Correspond with suppliers as appropriate.
  • Respond to wire transfer inquiries as appropriate.
  • Organize and maintain accurate and complete Accounting records.
  • Assure accuracy of supporting documentation.
  • Handle monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare the payroll.
  • Prepare the yearly budget in accordance with the Project Director.
  • Liaise with Amman and Washington office staff regarding SEED projects' expenses and budgets.
  • Coordinate closely with the Project Director and the USFS Washington Office staff.
  • Coordinate with the external auditors.
  • Follow up on opening the bank account.
  • Handle the VAT and NSSF registrations.
  • Provide financial documents to Administrative Coordinator and Project Director
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred.
  • Experience with project accounting;
  • English and Arabic fluency;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to travel throughout Jordan as needed;
  • Familiarity with international organizations and/or U.S. foreign government agencies; and
  • Jordanian nationality.
