Outreach and Community Engagement Officer, Sustainable Environmental and Economic Development (SEED)
The Sustainable Environment and Economic Development (SEED) program seeks a full-time Outreach and Community Engagement Officer for a US Agency for International Development (USAID) and US Forest Service (USFS) project to strengthen local government initiatives through targeted support in underserved and environmentally degraded regions of Jordan. Contracts of the selected personnel will be extended every year upon satisfactory completion of all duties.
Position Description
The Officer will lead SEED Program efforts to strengthen outreach, partnerships and community engagement through involving community members in environmental protection, education and restoration activities. Activities will enable core project activities – creating innovative nursery practices and outplanting protocols– using the efforts as an opportunity to strengthen community stewardship of natural resources in Jordan. Additionally, the specialist will lead external outreach and communications activities in line with core project activities.
Responsibilities of the Outreach and Community Engagement Officer include, but are not limited to:
- Develop a robust strategy for community engagement;
- Convene participation from local government leaders, NGOs, community groups (women, youth), Ministries and other stakeholders related to SEED project activities;
- Coordinate public events at SEED project sites (nurseries, planting sites)
- Implement opportunities for youth education and women’s engagement at SEED events;
- Coordinate closely with the SEED Nursery Extension Agent and SEED Natural Resource Officer;
- Recruit part-time communications specialists, photographers, graphic designers, and videographers as needed to highlight SEED events and deliverables;
- Prepare written project reports and needed updates; and
- Assist the Project Director with all other pertinent tasks as needed.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in sociology, communications, business administration, economic development, gender studies or anthropology is required;
- Prior experience working with communities and engaging communities in advocacy interventions;
- Strong understanding of local community dynamics;
- Prior experience organizing and planning successful events with diverse stakeholders;
- English and Arabic fluency;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Ability to travel throughout Jordan as needed;
- Experience with USAID desired;
- Familiarity with international organizations and/or U.S. foreign government agencies; and
- Jordanian nationality.
