Purpose for the job :
Under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Sector Coordinator and technical guidance of the IM Specialist, the Information Management Officer will be responsible for supporting planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of Child Protection (CP) sub-sector IM activities. The IM Officer will also work closely with IM staff of the Protection Sector in Syria to ensure Information Management is addressed and coordinated with the Whole of Syria CP sub-sector.
Key functions, accountabilities and related duties/tasks :
  1. Information system management:
  2. Maintain and strengthen Child Protection (CP) sub-sector databases (e.g. track partner activity, coordinate monthly reporting from partners, monitor emergency response, etc.).
  3. Conduct Child Protection (CP) subsector relevant data collection, collation, storage, filtering, analysis and dissemination, adhering to agreed standards, in order to inform needs assessments and decision-making.
  4. When relevant, work with national partners and Regional Office Child Protection (CP) subsector counterparts to make updates to the information management system to reflect changes in needs.
  5. Regularly share information with the M&E/IM Section for various office-wide information products.
  6. Produce relevant information resources:
  7. Work with the Child Protection (CP) sub-sector to develop relevant maps of sector needs and response activities
  8. Provide summaries of subsector progress against key indicators as required including programme activities and supplies. This will be used as inputs for donor reports, Situation. Reports and other products.
  9. Actively participates in OCHA-led assessment/access working groups, and other information gathering forums to enhance and strengthen evidence based response.
  10. Support the understanding and use of the information management system:
  11. Provide training, support and information to national partners on the sub-sector IM system, tools and reports including provision of gender and age disaggregated data and reporting on particularly vulnerable groups.
  12. Encourage and support partners to report to the Sector by providing clear instructions and user-friendly formats and feedback on reporting outcomes.
  13. Maintain and continuously update the existing IM products of the sub-sector. In particular:
  14. The sub-sector "Who does What Where and When (4Ws)" database and related products, such as infographics and maps.
  15. Subsector monthly dashboard/infographic showing achievements.
  16. Inventory of relevant documents on the humanitarian situation.
5. Support the Sector in all aspects related to information management:
  • Maintain an updated contact list of the Sector's partners, focal points, donors, and other relevant organizations.
  • Act as Sector IM Focal Point for the subsector. Support the Sector lead with other duties as required.
Recruitment Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Science preferably in Information Management, Information Systems, computer science, geographic information systems or a related field. Proven statistical, analytic and technical skills including database management and data analysis, high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.), ability to maintain databases, ability to produce data summaries and visualizations, GIS knowledge an advantage.
Experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience; preferably in a humanitarian crisis context.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is essential
