PSI seeks a Governmental Affairs Manager to pursue organizational advocacy and policy priorities, build internal advocacy capacity, and liaise with the U.S. government and advocacy partners. This full-time position is based in Washington, D.C. and reports to the Vice President for New Business and Advocacy.

RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
•Articulate and advocate PSI’s position on global health issues to U.S. policymakers, and provide input to U.S. government policies that affect PSI
•Develop, maintain and track PSI’s relationships with congressional and executive branch representatives
•Monitor, analyze and report on relevant federal legislation, appropriations, policies and activities, and share the information with appropriate PSI staff
•Inform and support decision makers within PSI on legislative issues and interpret how changes in U.S. policy will affect PSI and its staff
•Monitor congressional hearings, meetings and related events, and attend as needed
•Collaborate with partner organizations to represent global health interests to the U.S. government
•Raise awareness of PSI’s overseas programs and health impact by coordinating special events and meetings with congressional representatives and program partners
•Work with PSI leadership and technical, regional, and country staff to determine organizational advocacy and policy priorities within the United States and globally
•Assist PSI staff overseas with in-country advocacy
•Guide PSI field staff who are preparing for visits from U.S. government representatives to PSI overseas programs
•Contribute to PSI’s quarterly magazine, Impact

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
•5+ years’ work experience, including at least 2 years on Capitol Hill.
•Experience working at USAID, the Department of State, the White House, or other executive branch organizations affecting U.S. global health policy is strongly preferred
•Knowledge of and interest in global health and development issues such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, reproductive health and safe water
•Strong interpersonal and networking skills
•Excellent analytical, writing, and public speaking skills
•Sound judgment, attention to detail and the ability to work independently
•Experience living and/or working in the developing world would be beneficial
•French, Spanish, and/or Portuguese language skills strongly preferred

The successful candidate will have excellent writing, analytical, and organizational skills. Taking initiative, working independently, and seeing tasks through to completion are key skills for this position, because the department is small. Polished interpersonal and networking skills are necessary, as the position requires close collaboration with representatives from other PSI departments and with external partners.
