BACKGROUND

The GAVI Alliance is a Geneva-based partnership that uses innovative financing methods to fund the increased use of new and underused vaccines in the world’s poorest countries. Our partners include WHO, UNICEF, the World Bank, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, vaccine makers, recipient countries, and government donors. Our methods include the use of bond markets, clustering country demand, and boosting market competition, and increasing stability of demand. In the past decade, we have provided funding to immunise more than 288 million children in developing countries against life-threatening diseases and prevented more than five million deaths.
