MSME Banking Team Leader/Project Manager

In particular, DAI’s Banking and Financial Services Practice leads donor and private sector initiatives to address broad development challenges and to expand access to financial services for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), farmers and rural producers, and low-income populations. We do this by providing technical assistance to financial institutions, reforming financial sectors, and restructuring banks—building on industry best practices customised to local contexts and local institutional capacity.

Objective:

DAI is seeking experienced banking consultants to work on long-term MSME Lending Programmes throughout Sub Saharan Africa that are designed to help banks introduce and/or further accelerate MSME lending techniques. The programmes will seek to broaden the geographic and sector coverage of loan portfolios as well to lengthen the maturity and lower the average size of loans within MSME loan portfolios.

Preferred Qualifications:

Qualified candidates should have a combination of the following skills:

* Minimum 10 years experience in consumer or SME banking or microfinance, with particular expertise in cash-flow lending techniques
* Proven track record in implementing MSME projects through commercial banks in transition economies, preferably in sub-Saharan Africa. Consulting/work experience in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique is a plus.
* Experience working with and/or managing international donors programmes.
* Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing and monitoring an MSME lending scheme
* Exposure to MSME financial product diversification based on market needs; monitoring implementation of new products
* Experience in developing and implementing training (on-the-job and classroom) and train-the-trainer programmes
* Open and collaborative management or implementation style
* Fluency in French or Portuguese a plus
* Education: MA/MS or equivalent
