Nutrition Specialist

Purpose of the Position
Under the guidance of the Chief, Health and Nutrition, P-4, you will be responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of adolescent, maternal and child nutrition interventions, such as, Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), Baby Friendly Hospital Initiatives (BFHI), Micro-nutrient Supplementation including Micro-Nutrients Powder (MNP), Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (CIDD), Community-based Nutrition Activities and Nutrition in Emergencies including Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) within the Nutrition sector.

Key Expected Results
1. You will design, prepare, implement, monitor and evaluate various components of Nutrition project such as the Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), Baby Friendly Hospital Initiatives (BFHI), Micro-nutrient Supplementation including Micro-Nutrients Powder (MNP), Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (CIDD), Community-based Nutrition Activities and Nutrition in Emergencies including Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM). Analyze and evaluate data to ensure achievement of objectives and/or takes corrective action when necessary to meet programme objectives. Contribute to the development and/or introduction of new approaches, methods and practices in project planning, development, management and evaluation.

2. You will undertake field visits to monitor programmes, as well as conducts periodic programme reviews with government counterparts and other partners. Propose and/or undertakes action on operational procedures affecting project management and implementation. Provide technical advice and assistance to government officials and other partners in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Nutrition project.

3. You will contribute towards the preparation of the Situation Analysis by compiling data, analyzing and evaluating information, and writing chapters of the analysis of adolescent, maternal and child nutrition global and national status.

4. You will participate in the development of the sector work plan, ensures the achievement of specific assigned objectives, including Emergency Preparedness and Responses in line with Core Commitment for Children (CCC). Provide guidance and support to staff in meeting project objectives.

5. You will collaborate with government, and the national and international agencies covering the management of projects, including Cluster Leadership in Nutrition Emergencies. Participates in meetings with ministries responsible for program /project review, and follows up on implementation of recommendations and agreements.

Qualifications of Successful Candidate
Advanced university degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Public Health & Nutrition, Health Sciences, International Health & Nutrition, Family Health & Nutrition, Nutritional Epidemiology, Health & Nutrition Education, Health & Nutrition Promotion and Disease Prevention, Public Health, Health Emergency Preparedness, or other relevant discipline (s)

Five years of progressively responsible professional work experience at the national and international levels in programme management, monitoring and evaluation, in a related field.

• Advanced Technical Knowledge of theories, principles and methods in one of the following areas:
- Public Health & Nutrition, International Health & Nutrition, Public Health & Nutrition Policy and Management, Population and Family Health & Nutrition, Public Health Preparedness, Health Emergency Preparedness.

- Nutritional Epidemiology, Nutrition Research, Biostatistics, Biochemistry, Socio-medical Sciences,
- Health & Nutrition Education, Health & Nutrition Promotion and Disease Prevention, Educational Interventions in Health & Nutritional Care
• Gender and diversity awareness

Fluency in English and another UN language. Knowledge of the local language of the duty station is an asset.
